One of the things I enjoy most about developing Exhibbit is that there is always another layer of refinement to pursue. Behind every exhibition lies a great deal of research, testing and critical thinking aimed at answering a deceptively simple question.
How do we present artworks of the highest possible quality while still delivering an entire exhibition to visitors anywhere in the world within a matter of seconds?
Today, people connect to the same internet using an extraordinary variety of devices.
Some visitors may be using the latest desktop computers and fibre connections, while others may be viewing an exhibition on an older mobile phone over a much slower network.
Yet despite these differences, everyone expects the experience to feel natural and immediate.
This balancing act between image quality and speed is something we are continually refining.
Much like the lighting and hanging of works in a physical gallery, the digital presentation of art benefits enormously from careful attention to detail.
A useful metric we have just added is a real-time exhibition size counter. As you curate artworks the Megabyte counter updates automatically, allowing you to see the overall size of your exhibition as it evolves. Alongside this, we’ve introduced a set of recommended size ranges, giving guidance on the types of devices and connections best suited to different exhibition sizes. Knowing this gives you the option to reduce the size if you feel that your viewers will be affected.
To complement this, we’ve introduced a new image delivery system that automatically evaluates each visitor’s device and attempts to provide the most appropriate version of your exhibition. While no system can account for every variable, it intelligently adjusts image quality to match each device as closely as possible, giving every visitor the best experience their hardware can support.

Another benefit of the steady improvements in internet speeds, content delivery networks and the increasing power of modern devices, is that we’ve been able to revisit our image processing pipeline through extensive testing. The result is a noticeable increase in image quality throughout Exhibbit.

These developments are part of an ongoing process. Technology never stands still, and neither do we. As devices become more capable and networks continue to improve, we will keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible, extracting ever greater visual quality while ensuring exhibitions remain accessible to the widest possible audience.
Because ultimately, our goal is not simply to display images. It is to create an experience where exhibitions can be enjoyed by as many people as possible, regardless of the devices connecting them.
