ARTSEED+ Interconnection

Gallaudet University is a private federally chartered research university in Washington, D.C. for the education of the deaf and hard of hearing. https://gallaudet.edu

This is our first virtual Deaf Art Exhibition titled “ARTSEED+ Interconnection” between the United States of America (USA) and China, in celebration of the United Nations’ “International Day of Persons with Disabilities” on December 3rd. We believe that the physical distance between the USA and China, and COVID-19 pandemic will not stop us from getting our dose of different cultures. The virtual art exhibition will share perspectives of Deaf experience, convey unique cultures and messages through multiple mediums. (Please keep scrolling for more information below).

The exhibition includes several overlapping subjects: Diversity, Cross-Cultural Experience, Deaf Culture, Marginalized Art, and Disability Experience. As co-curators, Jiayi Zhou and Tracey Salaway collaborate selecting artworks from different artists with various purposes and each work has its own unique taste and shared experience through art form. Their works display beautiful human expression that we are here to share their stories today. We would like to encourage you to pay close attention to their works of art created by Deaf artists.

Each artist presents a bilingual artist statement. Written language on screen and American/Chinese Sign Language (ASL/CSL) on video. When you begin exploring the 3D exhibition space, you will be able to click and press on the I (eye) symbol and select the black arrow symbol to view the ASL/CSL artist statement video link. Thank you for visiting.

The Artist In Us

The exhibition showcases artworks done in semester 1 and has contributions from every class.

Through a variety of mediums, art concepts and inspiration from artists such as Henri Matisse, Frida Kahlo, Gustav Klimt and Vincent van Gogh, the artworks reflect the ideas and stories that make the students who they are.

We hope to inspire and bring out the artist in you with artworks from all levels.
